Hybrid Diesel Electric Marine Engines

When will the day come when there will actually be a hybrid diesel electric engine for large marine vessels? You can imagine how much fuel it requires for a boat to trek across the Atlantic Ocean. According to Answers.com an average cargo ship burns 1660 Gallons of fuel per hour. According to my Kia's user manual my car handles about 16 gallons of fuel. Do the math and you are talking 6 days 9 hours and 6 minutes to get across the atlantic ocean x 1660 Gallons = 253980 Gallons of Gas. Now divide that by 16 gallons that my car holds and you would need 15, 873.75 Kia Forte Coupes to Get Across the Atlantic ocean. Interesting Fact. Well I Think its time we get the bright scientists of this age to start big and then work our way to smaller things...
